Instructions to let Faculty and Staff log in to lab computers
January 4, 2007 4:45 pm | Author: Stephen McMillin | Filed Under Other FAQs, User ID |

These instructions will enable a faculty or staff member to log in to a library or lab computer. As of 8-23-02, these computers have been set up to require a student-id and password.
  1. At the Novell login screen, click the Advanced button. The screen will look like the one shown below. From here you will be able to change to proper Tree and Context settings that are required for you to log in.

  2. The first change is to set the Tree to be MSSC. You can type this in directly or click on the drop-down box to see if it is in the list of choices. Next you need to set the proper context. Context will depend on your area and the department you work for. To determine your current context, click the Advanced button of the Novell login on the computer you normally log in to (i.e., the one in your office.) Make note of the context listed on that computer. On the lab computer you might be able to select this from the drop-down box. Otherwise you will have to browse for the correct context by clicking the Contexts button (if the context is typed in, the client may not register this change when you try to log in.) For example, the screen below sets the correct context for a faculty member in Taylor Hall (TH.EDU.MSSC). Notice that the EDU context must be selected first by double-clicking on it, and finally TH selected before clicking the OK button.

This will bring you back to the login screen. The example below is setup properly for a faculty member in Taylor Hall.

  3. Finally, enter your user-id and password then click OK. The computer should log in normally.
